Pierre Neumann

Designer and educator Pierre Neumann was born in Adelaide, Australia and attended secondary and higher education in Neuchatel, Switzerland. He attended Monnerat School of Applied Art from 1973-74, and Cantonal School of Fine Arts in Lausanne from 1974-78. Early collaborations include work with designer Werner Jeker; workshops with KZ Design and photographer Magali Koenig. Pierre has taught at Cantonal School of Fine Arts, and ArtCenter College of Design in Europe.

Distinctions include: eight books and ten posters awarded by the Federal Department of the Swiss Interior, as well as two federal scholarships for applied arts. His posters have been included in numerous exhibitions, including: International Poster Triennial in Essen, Germany; ICOGRADA Prize at the 7th International Poster Festival of Chaumont, France. International Poster Triennial in Essen, Germany; Images of Human Rights, Paris; International Biennial of Posters, Finland and Bulgaria; Past­–Present Political Posters, Turin, Italy; New Waves in Swiss Graphic Design, Ogaki, Japan; University of Neuchatel; UCLA Extension, and Saint-Gervais, Geneva. Pierre’s work is held in many prestigious institutions, including: MOMA (NY), Library of Congress, International Biennale of the Poster (Varsovie), Museum of Design, Bale; Kunstgewerbemuseum, Zurch; The New Collection, Staatsgalerie, Munich; and the Museum of Art and Crafts, Hambourg.

The posters that make up the HMCT Archive collection consist of AO-sized posters, all silk-screened on paper unless otherwise noted.
