Alan Kitching’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art and Visiting Professor, University of Arts, London. Among his clients are Creative Review, The Times, The Guardian, and Penguin Books; his publications include Alan Kitching: A Life in Letterpress, and Alan Kitching’s A–Z of Letterpress. In 1989, Alan founded The Typography Workshop in Clerkenwell, and then ran The New Typography Workshop in London until 2021. Kelvyn Smith, craftsman, typography designer, and printmaker, served as Kitching’s assistant at The Typography Workshop.
The HMCT collection includes all of the collaboratively-produced, letterpress-printed Broadside posters published from 1988 to 2020. Also represented is Kitching’s personal project, A to Z of London, an alphabetic exploration of locations that are personal to the artist and other broadsides by Kitching.
